New energy school unveiled in Dalian

The launching ceremony for the school of energy, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) was held at Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS, Northeast China's Liaoning province, Oct 30.

Attendees participating in the ceremony included Li Shushen, vice-president of the CAS, Lu Ke, deputy governor of Liaoning Provincial People's Government, Tan Chengxu, mayor of Dalian, and representatives from UCAS, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Liaoning's education and science departments, as well as the city's universities.

Agreement for the project was signed in January 2017 by Dalian municipal people's government and the CAS, with the aim of training professionals for the country's energy sector and conducting research into key technologies in the field. 

Located at the Yinggeshi area in Dalian's high-tech zone and with an investment of 1.35 billion yuan ($196 million), UCAS's school of energy covers a construction area of 142,000 square meters, and is expected to be qualified for recruiting students in September 2020.

The school's facilities include teaching buildings, laboratories, a library and student apartments.

It is part of Dalian's efforts to build itself into a global clean energy industry hub and to revitalize Liaoning's old industrial bases.
