The first Wuxi-Cincinnati international cargo flight, carrying mainly laptops, conducted its first take-off from Sunan Shuofang International Airport on Oct 29.

The flight is the first intercontinental cargo air route top run from Wuxi to the United States and the second intercontinental freight flight launched by the airport this year.

The first international cargo flight, from Wuxi to Hahn, Germany, has achieved cargo output of 4,564 tons since May managed by DHL Global Forwarding, an international provider of air, sea and road freight services.

It is estimated that Wuxi Airport helps to save 500 yuan ($71) of highway freight per ton for exports from Wuxi and its neighboring cities compared with airports in Shanghai. The overall customs clearance time is also cut by seven to eight hours.

Wuxi Customs supported the airport by launching new services for the new route, such as a bulk unitization program and international transportation of goods, and undertaken response plans and supervisory measures.

The two global air routes will also enrich consumption choices for people in Jiangsu province. Commodities from Germany, South Korea and the US will be delivered to them through the flight in the future.

According to an official at Sunan Shuofang International Airport, the site construction and declaration work for imported chilled aquatic products have been completed. Ports for imported fruits and drugs are also being prepared.
