The 2018 Belt and Road (BRI) World Open Ballroom Championships, the first one of its kind in China, will hit the stage in Siming district, one of six districts in Xiamen, Fujian province from Nov 2 to 4.

More than 5,000 ballroom dancers from over 20 countries along the BRI route, including Russia, the Netherlands, Germany, Malaysia, South Korea, Croatia, and Italy, are expected to fight for the championship.

A total of 10 different kinds of dances will be staged during the competition, such as waltz, rumba, foxtrot, samba, cha-cha, and bullfight dance.

A world-renowned jazz band from Russia Dance Land will be invited to perform for the championship's opening ceremony.

In addition, a public lecture will be available on the first day of the event to offer local ballroom dance fans an opportunity to dance with world champions of Latin dance, Kirill Belorukov and Polina Teleshova, and modern dance, Travis Tuft and Jaimee Tuft.

With the aim of promoting cultural exchanges between countries along the BRI route, the competition is sponsored by the China Ballroom Dance Federation and Siming district government and supported by the Asian-Pacific Dance Council, Asian Dance Council, Russian Dance Union, and German Dance Association.
