The Sixth International Workshop on Wide Bandgap Semiconductor Materials and Devices was held in Pingtan from Oct 29 to 31, gathering over 50 scholars and experts from countries such as Denmark, Japan and Sweden.

Mikael Syvajarvi, a professor from Linkoping University, a prestigious school in Sweden, said holding this forum was a necessity as it was more than a platform for communication, it was an opportunity for different sides to know about each other and promote further cooperation in the near future.

A research center located in Pingtan Taiwan Entrepreneurship Park, a branch of the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the first of its kind in Fujian, was also inaugurated during the event.

The research center, supported by technologies from Denmark and Sweden, will carry out cutting-edge research in the semiconductor area.

Xia Jianbai, a CAS academician in semiconductor research, said Pingtan has offered a lot of policy support for companies that choose to settle there, such as tax exemptions. He hoped Pingtan will attract more talents and transform scientific achievements into manufacturing.
