Dalian, in Liaoning province, has recently released a report entitled "China Import Roadmap 2018", with the aim of exploring new and high-quality import sources, more reasonable import scales and more convenient import methods.

The report was compiled by Dalian Area of China (Liaoning) Pilot Free Trade Zone research institute of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics and Dalian Hanwen Information Company, after studying about 120 million items of basic trade data in the country.

Focusing on consumer goods, major technical equipment and key components (raw materials) and agricultural products, the report listed 30 kinds of goods that are in short supply and urgently needed in China.

The report analyzed major import sources, domestic import destinations, global trade and other facets in its quest to improve trade procedures and conditions.

According to the report, Shanghai and Beijing have the most imports, and these are still on the rise. In 2017, Shanghai's imports amounted to $5.53 billion, accounting for 32.8 percent of the country's total imports, and Beijing's imports reached $3.19 billion.

Data revealed that computers and components are mainly imported from Southeast Asia, with the most from Thailand, accounting for 26.7 percent of the total.

China's imports of semiconductor and flat panel display manufacturing equipment mostly come from Japan, with import volume accounting for 35.8 percent of the total.

Experts think that the roadmap will help optimize China's import structure, and improve the scale and quality of imported goods.
