Aero Modeling Association established in Nanyang

The launch ceremony of Nanyang Aero Modeling Association was held at Nanyang Stadium on Oct 28, showing citizens exciting airplane model stunts at high altitude and piquing the interest of potential new followers of the sport.

Featuring stunts by helicopter models, fixed-wing gliders and powered parachutes, the event also included an exhibition of nearly 100 different kinds of model planes.

The association will implement scientific and technological activities, such as airplane modeling, marine modeling, auto modeling, unmanned aerial vehicles, paragliders, powered parachutes, tech kites and building models, and various communication activities to exchange professional technology.

Li Bing, secretary-general of the Nanyang Aero Modeling Association, said that aero modeling sports can not only promote and popularize aerospace science and technology among young people, but also teach them to be more patriotic. There are currently more than 200 airplane modeling enthusiasts in the city.

Airplane modeling is a practical, interesting and systematic activity. The sport was added to the National Games of the People's Republic of China by the General Administration of Sports of China in 2017.
