Xiamen in East China's Fujian province is set to establish a high-end film and television base in its Jimei district, local government announced at the 2018 China Film and Television Base Summit held in the district on Oct 22.

The film and TV base will arise from transformation of the district's old plant area, which will be equipped with high-standard photostudios and other supporting facilities.

Over the past three years, nearly 200 film crews have selected Jimei as their shooting area and more than 300 film and TV industry-related companies have settled in the district's Jimeiji Cultural Innovation Park.

As early as 2016, the Xiamen district had released the first preferential policy in Fujian to support the the development of the film and TV industry.

Professor Zhang Aigong from Xiamen University said at the summit that Xiamen is in dire need of professional photostudios and a film and TV base.

Though many film crews shoot in Xiamen, they can not film indoor scenes and finish special effects there.

Zhang believes that the to-be-built base will solve all the problems.

Zhang Yange, deputy secretary general of the China Post Production Alliance, said that the overall style of Xiamen is completely different from other cities in China. It tends to be refreshing and charming, which can be an advantage for its film and TV industry.

The deputy secretary general added that talents are another Xiamen advantage.

Xiamen is home to Xiamen University and the Xiamen University of Technology and Jimei district houses more than 10 universities and institutes.

Guided by the Fujian Provincial Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and the China Film Producers' Association, the 2018 China Film and Television Base Summit was aimed at solving the problems that arose in the development of the film and television industry in China.
