Sixteen medical staffs from Brunei, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam visited Southern Theatre Command No 1 Navy Hospital on Oct 23 for medical exchanges.

The ASEAN delegates discussed a series of military medicine and medical evacuation issues with Chinese doctors, and showed keen interest in traditional Chinese medicine physiotherapy.

The hospital, which combines traditional medicine and modern physiotherapy, has rolled out 56 rehabilitation programs, including massage, acupuncture, cupping and fumigation, according to Liu Yali, the director of the Nursing Department.

Roy, a sailor on Philippine logistics support vessel BRP Dagupan City (LS-551), declared: "the acupuncture too amazing! My back pain is much better than just now, thanks to the Chinese doctor!"

At a symposium later, Dr Ji Ru, deputy director of the General Surgery Department, delivered a keynote speech on constructing frontier surgical teams to Vietnamese, Singaporean, Thai and Bruneian military surgeons.
