A new mobile pay system was launched on Oct 23 at all highway toll stations in the Yangzhou area, along with other 414 stations in Jiangsu, allowing drivers to pay for their tolls with their mobile phones.

The drivers only need to show the quick response (QR) code of the commonly used mobile payments including Alipay, Wechat Pay and China UnionPay's "flash payment".

The new system has remarkably improved the efficiency of the toll, as time is not being wasted on unnecessary procedures such as counting cash and looking for change, said an official at Yangzhou's Shugang Toll Station.
