A newly-built aquarium opened to the public on Oct 18, marking the first aquarium opening in Dahua county, Hechi, South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. It has so far attracted numerous visitors wishing to take a look at the aquatic animals.

Covering a total area of 654 square meters, the aquarium is located at Dahua Cultural and Sports Center, having been built with a more than 12 million yuan ($1.73 million) investment. The project started in May 2017 and was completed on Aug 24 this year. As a science popularization center and a tourist attraction for displaying aquatic animals from the Hongshui River, the aquarium will help to develop leisure tourism and popularize ecological civilization.

The Dahua section of the Hongshui River is the natural habitat of 145 species of freshwater fish and one species each of shark and shrimp. Thirty-five species of Hongshui River fish will be displayed alive at the aquarium, while another 110 species will be made into specimens for display.

The opening of the aquarium will be a new benchmark for Dahua, and it is sure to increase the county's reputation and influence, boosting regional economic and social development.
