Hongqi fuel cell engine, produced by FAW, officially ran at Jiaxing city, East China's Zhejiang province, on Oct 13. This is the first fuel cell engine start event not only for the FAW but for China.

The engine has a system power of 50 kW and a volumetric specific power of 400 w/L, far higher than the same kind of products in China.

The engine worked as planned, and it will support the FAW's development strategy of new energy vehicles and it also marks the breakthrough in China's fuel cell batteries.

The first Hongqi fuel cell engine will be later used on Hongqi H5 fuel cell electric vehicles and a 100 kW fuel cell electric engine is expected to be developed to be used on other various new energy Hongqi sedans.

The Hongqi fuel cell engine is only a small part of the FAW's whole new energy vehicle development strategy.

FAW planned to introduce battery electric vehicles in 2018, to run fuel cell electric vehicles in 2019, to produce a series of electric driven vehicles which can move 600 km in 2020, and to launch 15 kinds of electric driven vehicles in 2025.

In October, FAW will introduce Besturn X40, a battery electric vehicle with an ability of moving 350 km, into the market. At the end of this year, FAW is expected to launch Hongqi battery electric vehicle, which can run nearly 400 km.
