Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) Group will invest no less than 50 billion yuan ($7.2 billion) over the next five years to help Zhanjiang develop all-for-one tourism.

A cooperation agreement was signed with the local government on Oct 16. The agreement involves the upgrading of scenic spots, the development of key tourism projects, and the construction of support facilities and urban infrastructure.

The two announced plans to develop Tiaoshun Island, Baisha Bay, and Qing'an Bay, while transforming and upgrading the historic blocks in Leizhou Peninsula. Hugangyan scenic spot and Leizhou Jiulong Mountain Wetland Park will also be entrusted to the company for management and overall improvements.

The municipal government will give top priority to the OCT projects as the backbone of the local modern service sector. A task force will be set up to help land them efficiently, and thereby propel the development of local tourism, according to Zheng Renhao, Party secretary of Zhanjiang.

Zhanjiang is a pivotal city on the Guangdong Coastal Economic Belt. It has a solid foundation and bright prospects for tourist development. OCT is willing to work closely with the city, which aspires to become an all-for-one tourism demonstration city of Guangdong province, said Duan Xiannian, president of the company.

Founded in 1985, OCT Group is a large-scale state-owned enterprise headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong province. It is best known for its cultural and tourism projects, including Happy Valley and Happy Coast amusement parks, Splendid China Folk Village, and Window of the World.
