Yangzhou acts to promote civilized dining

An observation tour for food safety and civilized dining was held in Yangzhou on Oct 8, during which over 5,000 sets of serving chopsticks and spoons were given out to local restaurants.

Using serving spoons and chopsticks, which is considered as being more hygienic than allowing everyone to use their own chopsticks and spoons, was suggested by the Yangzhou government as an important measure to promote civilized dining.

The serving spoons and chopsticks were made of durable materials and slogans such as "Low salt, low oil, low sugar" were printed on the serving chopsticks.

"During the National Day holiday, serving spoons and chopsticks received a good response from customers," said Wu Xiaoyan, from Quanjude Yangzhou branch, which was among the first batch of restaurants in Yangzhou to promote serving spoons and chopsticks.

"Using serving chopsticks can stop the spread of the diseases. It's not only safe and hygienic, but also acts as a symbol of Yangzhou people's etiquette," said Hong Hao from the Yangzhou Municipal Food and Drug Administration.
