In recent years, Hohhot has been developing its agricultural sector with the application of science and technology.

Located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Hohhot boasts an ideal natural ecological environment for livestock breeding. With the help of innovative science and technology, it has upgraded its agriculture featuring dairy cows and mutton sheep farming, rural sightseeing and planting of characteristic crops, as well as facilitating rural rejuvenation.

The government supports local enterprises, educational institutions and research institutes to build research and development platforms, such as key laboratories for livestock breeding and key technology research centers.

These platforms help to improve the breeding of new high-quality varieties of animals, comprehensive control of epidemic diseases, and deep processing and utilization of livestock and poultry aquatic products.

Inner Mongolia Leke Biotechnology Co, Saikexing Inner Mongolia Livestock Farming and Breeding Biotechnology Research Institute and Inner Mongolia University (IMU) have cooperated to introduce key technologies for the reproduction of breeding sheep.

The three parties developed a group of technologies relating to frozen semen for sheep and the application of vitrification techniques for sheep embryos, which were scientific achievements exclusive to China.

Meanwhile, Leke Biotechnology has established long-term partnerships with regional universities including Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, Inner Mongolia Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Sciences to upgrade technological innovations.

New technologies cannot be widely applied without promotion. Deheng Animal Husbandry Co, an agricultural enterprise in Hohhot’s Togtoh county, adopts an innovative feeding approach to produce high-quality crossbred lambs at lower cost.

The science and technology innovations are helping local farmers and agricultural enterprises to capture markets quickly and increase economic benefits.

This success can also be attributed to the application of emerging technologies like the internet of things (IoT) and cloud computing.

A raft of companies have also launched big data platforms and online management systems, and are actively promoting the integration of Internet Plus husbandry.
