Jiangyin welcomes its first university

The groundbreaking ceremony of the Jiangyin branch of Nanjing University of Science and Technology was held on Sept 21.

Li Xiaomin, Party secretary of Wuxi, Chen Jinhu, Party secretary of Jiangyin city, Yin Qun, Party secretary of Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Cai Yeming, mayor of Jiangyin city, attended the ceremony.

Located in the core area of the Lingang economic development zone, the university has a planning area of 320,000 square meters and will be completed in the first half of 2020. It will be the first higher education institution in Jiangyin city.

Chen Jinhu said that the campus is supposed to expand the supply of high-quality education resources and develop talents for the city. The government will actively cooperate with Nanjing University of Science and Technology to ensure its completion.

During the ceremony, Changjiang town of Jiangyin donated 20 million yuan ($3 million) for the gymnasium, while Shen Da Group supported the construction of the school library with 50 million yuan.

Nanjing University of Science and Technology is one of the national key universities and has more than sixty years' experience in providing inspiring and horizon-broadening education. It has become a multi-disciplinary university offering science, engineering, liberal arts, economics, business, management, law and education programs. About 10,000 students will be able to study in the Jiangyin branch in 2020.
