Floral Whisper along Silk Road — Cultural Journey of Maritime Silk Road, a cultural promotion activity sponsored by Guangzhou, launched respectively in Sri Lanka and Malaysia on Sept 21 and 24.

The Cultural Journey set sail in Guangzhou on Aug 29 to countries along the Maritime Silk Road, such as Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Cyprus, to carry out exchanges and cooperation in various fields and forms. The activity, a mix of an exhibition and performances, cultural salons and public interaction activities, will be an international exchange platform of the Maritime Silk Road to promote the cultural heritage of its cities and regions.

The activity debuted in Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka, on Sept 21 with Guangdong-featured performances including Guangdong Opera, puppet shows, and Guangdong folk music. Interactive activities with local citizens and tourists were also held to promote the Maritime Silk Road culture and popularize a wonderful image of Guangzhou.

The journey arrived in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia on Sept 24. Exchange activities, such as an academic forum, a cultural promotion meeting and exhibition of Maritime Silk Road culture, and theatrical performances, were provided to strengthen the emotional ties between Guangzhou and Kuala Lumpur and promote sharing of research and protection of cultural heritages.

Guangzhou signed memorandums of cooperation regarding the Maritime Silk Road with both Sri Lanka and Malaysia. The memorandums require both the two sides to work together for the overall protection and publicity of their respective heritages and establish safeguard mechanisms for their achievements.

Guangzhou has formed an alliance dedicated to registration as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 24 cities in China. In the future, it will work with other countries to protect all cultural heritages along the Maritime Silk Road.
