Huaxi village celebrates harvest

The first Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival was held at Huaxi village, Jiangyin city, Wuxi, on Sept 22 and 23.

Square dancing and waist drum performances were launched to express the joy of harvest.

The event exhibited agricultural legacies, such as Liuqing bamboo carving, steelyard-making, paper-cutting, Wuxi zhima (woodprint joss paper) and calligraphy and painting works created by workers.

People from home and abroad, including Guizhou province, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, Jiangsu province, Cambodia and Mozambique, showcased their distinctive agricultural products and dances and songs. They also showed their sense of honor, happiness and fulfillment, which demonstrated a golden harvest and the prosperity of the nation.

During the event, villagers of Huaxi cooked seasonal dishes for attendees. A large number of high-quality agricultural products of Jiangyin, led by Huaxi rice, were displayed and sold.

Wan Jianmin and Zhang Hongcheng, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and representatives from quality rice towns of Jiangsu province and well-known rice enterprises, gathered in Huaxi village to share ideas on the future of the rice industry of Jiangsu province.

With the theme of "China Harvest Festival for Farmers", a broad range of featured activities have been carried out across Jiangsu province since September in forms of rural tourism, folk performances and distinctive agricultural product exhibitions. Those activities will last until the end of October.
