Ordos cashes in on Mid-Autumn Festival

The city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia autonomous region received 480,600 tourists during the Mid-autumn Festival, which took place from Sept 22 to 24, representing an increase of 18.3 percent on the same period last year.

Total tourism revenues hit 403 million yuan ($58.64 million) during the three-day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 19.2 percent. 

Thanks to the first China’s Farmers Harvest Festival which falls within the three days of the national holiday, the city saw a surge in the number of visitors. 

Various activities held to celebrate China’s Farmers Harvest Festival increased the number of fun events available for visitors to take part in, boosting the number of tourists visiting the city. 

One particularly busy attraction was the Mausoleum of Genghis Khan, which offers free entry to ethnic Mongolians. During the national holiday, the scenic spot received a total of 14,900 visitors. 

Ordos Wildlife Park also proved to be popular, with the total number of visitors hitting 33,000.
