The Mount Putuo Scenic Spot in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, won the Most Popular Tourist Attraction award at the 2018 Red Coral Award of Asia Tourism, which was held in Shanghai on Sept 14.
The Red Coral Award of Asia Tourism, initiated by the 21st Century Business Herald, a leading financial media outlet in China, in 2016, is regarded as the Oscars of the Asian tourist industry.
It offers a comprehensive evaluation of consumers' attitudes and comments about each tourist destination based on big data, and organizes a professional appraisal by authoritative scholars, research institute experts, investment leaders and senior media workers, accompanied by an online vote, to ensure its authority and fairness.
Mount Putuo, one of China's four holy Buddhist mountains, has been renowned as the shrine of Guanyin Bodhisattva since ancient times, and is visited by millions of tourists every year.
Official statistics show that Mount Putuo (except Zhujiajian Scenic Spot) received nearly 7.5 million visitors in 2016, up 12.9 percent year-on-year, and over 8.5 million visitors in 2017, up 14.43 percent year-on-year.
