Longzai, second filial generation (F2) panda cub born in Guangzhou on July 12, the first of its kind, has officially received its identify from China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda on Sept 20.

The two-month-old Longzai received his identity card with the number 008, meaning he is the eighth giant panda born in South China.

The birth of Longzai, together with his mother, has marked a significant new breakthrough in the research technology of giant panda protection in China as giant pandas breed less in low altitude area with high temperature and high humidity.

According to China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda, nine giant pandas have been born in South China since the establishment of the Giant Panda Breeding Base. Guangzhou by far has the largest population of pandas in South China, and Longzai marks the beginning of the breeding of the second generation of giant pandas here.
