New energy buses running on electricity will soon be put into full operation in Pingtan, an island city located off the east coast of Fujian province, according to the local bus company.

Twenty such buses that run the No 6 and No 10 bus routes have already been in operation since Sept 5.

Charging stations have been installed for the new energy buses and a full charge takes only one hour.

Fang Kai, a bus driver, said the new, well-equipped bus made life easier for them. "New functions such as backing radar and automatic transmission can relieve physical fatigue, making it safe for both drivers and passengers," Fang added.

"Old buses used to be very crowded. Now, the environment on the buses has been greatly improved. It's very clean and comfortable," said a local resident surnamed Wu.
