Yangzhou company builds Tanzanian industrial park

Hengyuan International Engineering Group, along with several state enterprises including the China National Building Material Group Co Ltd, constructed the Hengya Industrial Park in Tanzania.

Headquartered in Yangzhou's Jiangdu district, Hengyuan International Engineering Group focuses on chemical engineering and cement production equipment. The Hengya Industrial Park will feature the largest cement plant in East Africa by annual output when the project is complete. Other park residents will focus on producing building materials and energy resources.

"The industrial park covers an area of 586.8 hectares with an overall investment of about $3 billion. The project will greatly benefit the Tanzanian economy and create nearly 3,500 job opportunities," said Li Ping, vice general manager of Hengyuan International Engineering Group.

In the last five years, Yangzhou has invested in 18 projects with African countries, particularly in Egypt and Tanzania. An initial investment of $35.1 million has achieved a turnover of $664 million.
