The Floral Whisper along the Silk Road and the Cultural journey of the Maritime Silk Road were officially launched in the Cantonese Opera Art Museum in Guangzhou on Aug 29, with nearly 300 people in attendance.

During the ceremony, a publicity film featuring the thousands of years of the Maritime Silk Road's historic culture and an emblem symbolizing all-win cooperation were formally released. A thematic performance, along with a cultural exchange salon and a cultural exhibition, was also put on for the attendees.

The Floral Whisper along the Silk Road is expected to start in Sept and to carry out promotional activities and cultural performances firstly in Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Cyprus. As an important part of Maritime Silk Road cultural exchanges, it will launch a series of activities to promote protection and development of maritime silk road culture among countries and regions along the ancient route. In just three years, it will cover five continents with foreign cultural publicity activities.

Since the Belt and Road initiative was proposed, Guangzhou has been focusing on the construction of a new maritime silk road by applying various forms of publicity.

Zhang Jianhua, deputy secretary general of the Guangzhou municipal government, said he hoped the series of activities will serve as a platform for related countries and regions to communicate and cooperate.

Lu Zhiqiang, director of the Guangzhou culture, radio and TV, press and publication bureau added that along with the state-level cultural exchanges, such measures as joint academic research, talent exchange and cooperation and person-to-person exchanges will be taken to deepen multilateral cooperation in development of Maritime Silk Road culture.
