A new bus line was opened on Aug 31, which will transport students and their parents to and from the east campuses of Yucai and Wenhe primary schools in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province.
The bus line runs from the east campus of Yucai Primary School to Guangzhu Garden, with a route length of 12.5 kilometers, and covers 28 residential areas.
Four air-conditioned new energy buses have been put into service, which is only available for students and their parents, with a self-service ticketing system charging a fee of 2 yuan ($0.29) each time.
The first bus in the morning and afternoon departs at 7:15 am and 3:20 pm respectively. The line will not operate during public holidays, and winter and summer holidays.
"We have added some decorations that are appealing to children on the buses, such as cartoon paintings, to create a pleasant atmosphere. Additional non-slip rubber mats have been put at the entrances. Also, commonly used medicines and bus line maps are also available on the buses," said a staff member from the bus operating company.
Fifty volunteers will also take turns to ensure the safety of children travelling on the buses.

"A lot of students are picked up by grandparents riding electric-cycles. It's not safe as their grandparents are of old age and sometimes the weather conditions are not good. Now the bus line makes it convenient for many parents to pick up their children," said a teacher from the east campus of Wenhe Primary School.
