Micro travel route 5: tour religious buildings

Recommended sites: Shenyang Catholic Church, Ci'en Temple, Great Buddha Temple, Prajna Temple, Taiqing Palace, Temple of Eternal Peace, Shisheng Temple, South Mosque, East Mosque

Shenyang Catholic Church is the earliest Catholic Church in Shenyang and was built by a French priest. The church was burnt down in the Yihetuan Movement (an anti-imperialist armed struggle in 1900, known as the Boxers Movement) and was rebuilt in 1912 with a typical Gothic style.

Ci'en Temple was built in 1628 and was made up of three building groups. It is the largest existing Buddhist temple in Shenyang.

Great Buddha Temple was built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), covering an area of 543 square meters.

Prajna Temple was built in 1684 and made up of east and west courtyards, covering an area of 2,289 square meters.

Taiqing Palace was built in 1663 and has distinctive national style and Taoist style in its architecture.

Temple of Eternal Peace is one of the most ancient temples in Shenyang. It was built before the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), covering an area of 5,200 sq m.

Shisheng Temple was built in 1636 and is a large Lama temple in Shenyang. It is also called the "Royal Temple".

South Mosque was built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It is the largest and most prestigious mosque in Northeast China, covering an area of 6,116 sq m.

East Mosque was built in 1803, covering an area of 1,900 sq m. And the building embodies a combination of Chinese and western architectural styles.
