The fifth Nansha Port Parallel Import Auto Show was held from Aug 10 to 12. The auto exhibition was packed with visitors as it opened just one month after the import vehicle tariff cut went into effect in early July.

Beginning July 1, the 20-to-25-percent tariffs on imported vehicles were cut to 15 percent, and duties on auto parts were lowered to 6 percent from the previous levels of 8 to 25 percent.

According to the person-in-charge of the parallel import automobile exhibition center of Nansha Port, sales at the exhibition hall began to flourish after the tariff cut policy came into effect. Consumers continued to pay attention to the price of parallel imported cars and many of them intended to buy a car at when the price was right.

From January to July this year, a total of 733,000 vehicles were unloaded at Guangzhou Port, which was 59.6 percent of the annual target and marked a year-on-year increase of 14.9 percent.

In that same period, Nansha Port handled a total of 561,382 domestic and foreign commercial vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 23.47 percent. In July alone, a total of 90,169 such vehicles passed through the port, an increase of 20.11 percent over the same period last year.
