Guangzhou issues 17,800 plates for new energy vehicles

In the first half of this year, Guangzhou issued a total of 17,800 new energy vehicle license plates, and the city's energy-saving and new energy buses account for about 75 percent of the total number, according to Guangzhou municipal development and reform commission.

Currently, Guangzhou has put 11,160 energy-saving and new-energy buses on the road, accounting for 75 percent of the total number of buses. Among them, 3,767 are pure electric buses and 2,322 are plug-in hybrid buses. The southern Chinese city is planning to purchase another 6,629 all-electric buses and it has built 2,366 special charging piles for the electricity-powered buses.

The total number of new energy vehicles in the city has reached 60,000 whose total mileage hit more than 2.1 billion kilometers. The energy conservation and emission reduction has achieved remarkable results in the city. By 2020, the number of new energy vehicles in Guangzhou is expected to reach 200,000.

By the end of June this year, the city completed the construction of about 20,000 charging facilities. A total of 84 bus charging stations and 2,319 charging stations have been built, and the charging service capacity is about 210,000 kilowatts.
