Two subsidiaries of China Minmetals Corporation (CMC), China's largest metals and minerals group, announced in late July that they have dug through the left hole of a tunnel at Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) toll road currently under construction in Indonesia, the first highway road tunnel in the country.

The road, constructed by China MCC17 Group Co Ltd and MCC Overseas Ltd, is expected to link surrounding transportation network and promote regional economic development.

The tunnel is 472 meters long and 60 meters deep with a diameter of 16 meters. Construction of such a large section of a tunnel requires high security control capability.

The left side was completed within 389 days, 15 days before the deadline.

The road, as part of the cooperation projects between China and Indonesia that can receive preferential loan, plays an important role in China's Belt and Road Initiative. It shows the great potential in political, economic and social exchanges between the two countries.

Indonesian mainstream media reported the event numerous times. Local officials also said the project bolstered standardized construction management.
