Colorful paddy field pops up in Zhoushan

A special kind of paddy field has recently attracted many tourists to the Putuo Rural Complex, Putuo district, Zhoushan city, with its picturesque look formed by the colorful Guanyin rice, a unique local rice variety of Putuo.

The multicolored paddy field, covering over five hectares, is part of local authorities' efforts to develop Putuo's creative agriculture by combining agriculture with tourism.

They have cooperated with a local food company to process the rice and vigorously promoted the rice through various marketing channels, thus increasing sales of the rice and bringing benefits to farmers. 

With a river channel project worth over $580,000 under way, local authorities also plan to build fish ponds within the paddy field to form a sound eco-system for the growing of rice.
