Inner Mongolia has launched this year's Jianwang Operation to crack down on online infringements, according to a meeting held on July 31.

The copyright authorities in the region will target the sectors of online music, news, short videos, and live broadcasts.

The infringements in these sectors include unauthorized copies, performance or distribution of movies, music, photos and written works; illegal adaptation or distortion of original copyrighted products in the name of fair use; and abusive use of the safe harbor principle to violate copyrights.

E-commerce portals and apps, especially the social media apps including Weibo and Wechat, will be given priority supervision during the campaign.

According to the government, it will reinforce the punishment and push forward the collection of tips against online piracy through the disclosure of ways of tip offs.
