Founded in 2003, Dalian Shell Museum is located in the southeast of Xinhai Square and covers an area of 16,000 square meters. 

The museum is the world’s biggest professional shell museum with total investment of 80 million yuan ($11.77 million), which integrates the functions of shellfish research and exhibition.

The museum is four storeys high and has a basement, exhibiting over 50,000 shellfish specimens, 3,000 ancient fossil specimens and a large number of plastic mollusks specimens.

Visitors may enjoy priceless shells walking through an 800-meter spiral ramp inside the museum, including the species of annepona mariae, pleurotomarioidea and golden cowrie.
