Experts discuss China’s marine industry in Harbin

A seminar themed on “ocean power” was held at Harbin Engineering University in Harbin, capital city of Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province on July 23.

The seminar allowed leading experts and academics to discuss topics related to the ocean, including the development of marine science and technology, the marine economy, protection of marine resources and the environment, as well as the maintenance of maritime rights and interests.

Representatives from 12 universities affiliated to Beijing Tech Universities Alliance (Beijing Tech) attended the seminar.

Beijing Tech Universities Alliance was established on Oct 19, 2011 and comprises of 12 universities with various research advantages in the field of defense science. The universities include such prestigious establishments as Harbin Engineering University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University and North China Electric Power University.

During the seminar, Wang Ruihua, deputy director of the equipment industrial department of the Ministry of Industry and Information, delivered a speech about products made in China and ways to develop the marine economy. 

Wang went on to outline his views on the current state and likely future development of China’s ship and marine industries.

At the conclusion of the seminar, a new group was set up to help study and guide China’s ocean power strategy.
