Hohhot listed among Top 100 cities

Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region in North China, placed 47th on a 2018 national list of the Top 100 Cities, according to the announcement made by Warton Economic Institute in Shanghai on July 20. The Inner Mongolian cities of Ordos and Baotou also made the list.

The 10 highest-placed cities were Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Suzhou, Tianjin, Wuhan and Chongqing.

Also among listed cities were 42 from such economically developed areas as the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The list focused on such indices as GDP, household savings, scientific accomplishment, culture, health and ecological environment.

Hohhot, which dropped one place to 47 this year, has performed steadily after local government  efforts to improve economic development.

According to government statistics, Hohhot has launched 468 major projects in such sectors as ecological protection, social security and industrial development, with 81.3 billion yuan ($12 billion) invested.

Hohhot has also accelerated development of its emerging industries, including the clean-energy sector. Over the past year, the city has supported key industrial parks and local enterprises to upgrade the industry. 

The government has also prioritized the improvement of individual livelihoods and quality of life.

It sped up health care reforms to remove medicine markups in 52 public hospitals and introduce 11 integrated medical care organizations to make quality care more accessible to the wider public.
