A total of 300 third-class ancient and famous trees in Wuchuan, a county-level city in Zhanjiang, now have "ID cards" to ensure dynamic information management and better protection.

In China, only trees that are more than 100 years old are considered ancient. Third-class ancient trees are normally aged between 100 to 299 years.

However, there are no age restrictions or classification for famous trees. They can be planted by either domestic or international celebrities or be of commemorative significance.

These trees are not only faithful witnesses of Wuchuan's history, but also hold great cultural, ecological and economic significance.

Wuchuan launched a survey to identify its ancient and famous trees in 2017, recording their location, species, age, ownership, history, current situation and maintenance and protection units.

Based on the survey results, the 2018 edition of the Catalog of Third-Class Ancient and Famous Trees in Wuchuan was recently released by the local afforestation committee.

The catalog offers basic information about the trees, so that more meticulous and customized care can be provided for them.
