Shaobo town in northeast Yangzhou, now a famous historical and cultural town in China, used to be a thriving center for business and a busy port on the Grand Canal.

The town was founded by politician Xie An in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420), and enjoys a long-standing history of over 1,600 years.

Here are eight well-known historical symbols of Shaobo town to give you a better idea of the town's past and present.

Shaobo Old Street

Shaobo Old Street was built during the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1661-1722) in the Qing Dynasty and stretches for over 1,500 meters.

With over 10,000 green stone plates laid as the surface, the entire old street is neither water-logging nor dust-raising.

Walking along the old streets, visitors may encounter many historical sites including stones of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and wells of the Song dynasty (960-1279).
