Trains produced by the Lushunkou manufacturing base of CRRC (China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation) Dalian Co officially started operating as part of an urban light rail system in Abuja, capital of Nigeria, on July 12.

The urban light rail system is the first of its kind in West Africa and the first to be built by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), with partial funding from the Export-Import Bank of China.

The new rail system consists of two lines: Lot1A with a length of 17.89 kilometers and Lot3 with a length of 27.24 km. Trains can operate at speeds of up to 100 km per hour.

The system linking Abuja International Airport and satellite towns in the northwestern region with downtown Abuja is expected to help relieve traffic pressure in the capital and boost economic and social development along the routes.
