Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province has been designated as one of the four open laboratories for China Mobile's 5G development in the province, and Guizhou has been included as one of the 14 places for the giant operator's global 5G joint innovation.

Together with the cities of Guiyang and Liupanshui, as well as Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture in Guizhou province, Guian will accelerate the integration of information communications and create more innovative 5G applications and products.

Focusing on big data, smart medical treatment and tourism, the area will promote the upgrading of information infrastructure in Guizhou and provide favorable conditions for a 5G network, terminal testing, technological development and business model incubation.

"Big data and cloud computing are developing quickly in Guian. With the improvement of 5G technology and a growing number of high-tech enterprises choosing to settle there, the area has a promising future in the 5G industry," said Xu Rong, an employee at China Mobile's Guian branch.

He also disclosed that by taking advantage of 5G in Guian, the branch will achieve cooperation in more areas, including smart tourism, street lights and parking, in an effort to improve people's daily lives.

In a new era of telecommunications, 5G provides a superfast broadband connection and is able to support the development of a dozen new industries, such as driverless vehicles, virtual reality, augmented reality and smart factories.

The first 11 entities agreeing to cooperate with the Guizhou lab include Huawei, Datang Mobile, BaishanCloud Technology Co Ltd and the Guizhou Institute of Technology.
