More than 60 overseas Chinese teenagers gathered at Jinan University, Guangzhou on July 18 for a special summer camp where they will learn about traditional Guangdong culture, customs and folk arts.

The "Embrace China-Chinese Bridge" Summer Camp was launched by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban).

Qiao Wei, vice president the all-China federation; Li Jing, president of the Guangdong Province Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Lin Rupeng, Party chief of Jinan University attended the opening ceremony.

In his speech, Qiao said that he hopes that all the camp participants will cherish this opportunity to study Chinese knowledge and appreciate Chinese culture, feel and carry forward the charm of Chinese culture, and share with their friends what they see and what they learn when they return. He believed that the students will be great inheritors of the outstanding traditional Chinese culture, and help promote people-to-people exchanges between China and the world.

Li said that Guangdong is China's largest overseas Chinese hometown with rich cultural resources. The province is home to many world cultural heritages and projects in the UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme. It also has the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Museum, the Jiangmen Wuyi Overseas Chinese Museum and other bases that showcase the history and culture of overseas Chinese, providing the most direct channels of observation and the most vivid activities for overseas Chinese youths to discover their roots.
