The acting consul-general of Nepal in Guangzhou, Dipak Banjade, led a delegation to visit Xiamen, Fujian province on July 6, with the aim of strengthening cooperation with the coastal Chinese city.

Yao Jianhong, deputy director of Xiamen's Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, briefed the delegation on Xiamen's economic development.

Yao said that both Xiamen and Nepal boast abundant sightseeing resources and therefore, the two sides can enhance their exchanges and cooperation in tourism and culture.

There are also great opportunities for cooperation in modern agriculture, the service industry and the development and utilization of mineral resources, Yao added.

The acting consul-general said that since the launch of the Belt and Road Initiative, the people of the two countries have seen increasingly frequent contacts.

Last year, more than 100,000 Chinese tourists swarmed into Nepal, and that figure is expected to rise by 50 percent this year.

Banjade said that their consulate in Guangzhou is considering attending the 2018 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen from Sept 8 to 11.

He added that the consulate is willing to explore more cooperation opportunities with Xiamen's Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office to contribute to mutual exchanges.
