A travel experience pavilion opened in Yangzhou on July 8, showcasing the ethnic culture of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

The pavilion was co-organized by Yangzhou and Xinjiang's subordinate Xinyuan county, which is home to large groups of Kazak minorities.

The pavilion is an embodiment of Kazak culture, with displays of horsewhips, wooden containers, costumes and instruments forming decorations, and activities on offer giving a taste of traditional Kazak customs, such as the chance to sample Kazak cuisine, and watch traditional Kazak folk dances.

In order to keep their most authentic flavors, all the main ingredients used in the Kazak-themed dining area are being transported by air from Xinyuan – within 24 hours – to assure their freshness.

Shi Ning, an official from Xinyuan, said he hoped the pavilion can help Yangzhou residents deepen their understanding of the northwestern region.

Early in 2013, Yangzhou paired up with Xinyuan to support its economic and social development. Since then, the once lagged-behind county has undergone a remarkable growth in tourist numbers and the economy.

It is hoped that the pavilion will spur more cooperation between Yangzhou and Xinyuan in the future.
