A total of 500 kilograms of Guangzhou's distinctive fruit wampee were first exported to Canada by air after passing the inspection and quarantine procedures at Xintang Customs. This is also the first time the fruit has been exported to Canada from Guangdong province.

The wampees were harvested in Zengcheng district of Guangzhou, a place renowned for wampee planting. Rich in vitamin C, sugar, organic acids and pectin, the fruit is believed to be effective in promoting digestion and cleaning the sputum and is very popular among fruit lovers.

The planting area of wampee trees in Zengcheng is about 3,000 mu (200 hectares), and the annual yield of the fruit in the district is 3,000 tons. For a long time, Zengcheng's wampees were mainly sold domestically.

To boost the national rural revitalization strategy in Zengcheng and help the district's fruit enter the international market, Xintang Customs has been guiding the orchards and enterprises to obtain the fruit export registration qualification in advance, and simultaneously guiding the farmers to carry out pest monitoring, prevent pests and diseases, and regulate the usage of pesticides.

Before harvesting, the customs conducts pesticide residue testing and on-site quarantine of the orchard to ensure the quality of the wampees. It also opened a green channel for wampee export in view of the short shelf life of the fruit and the difficulty of storage and transportation.

"I'm really grateful for Xintang Customs. It has been guiding the development of Zengchen's wampee industry so that overseas people can taste the authentic Zengcheng taste," said a local orchard's person in-charge.
