Daishan Island, also known as Penglai Fairyland, is really composed of 406 islands. They look like strings of bright jewels inlaid in the East China Sea. The island’s Dashun Temple dates to the Neolithic period and fishing relics from 4000 years ago can still be discovered. Since those ancient times fishermen have made a living through sea salt; Daishan salt has gradually become a tribute to the island.

About Daishan Island

Shuanghe Shibi

Shuanghe Shibi is located in Shuanghe Village, Daixi Town. With a characteristic craftsmanship, local people have created over 50 strange rock-scapes. In 2004, a leisure resort themed marine stone culture was built there as a romantic, mysterious and rosy place for honeymoons.

Dongsha Ancient Town

Stepping into Dongsha Ancient Town, tourists see long lanes, quaint courtyard houses and shops with time-honored trademarks. Although century-old Dongshajiao has enjoyed a historical prosperity, its pristine folk customs with a strong fishermen’s flavor still attract tourists to stay a little longer.

Mount Moxing

The highest mountain in Daishan Island and an ideal spot for seascapes, Mount Moxing is honored as the first peak in Penglai Fairyland, an ancient name for Daishan Island. On the top of Mount Moxing stands the Ciyunjile Temple. Built in the Qianlong Emperor period of the Qing dynasty (AD 1644-1911), the temple is partly sheltered by the green trees on the southern slope of Mount Moxing. Tourists can have a spectacular view of the well-proportioned halls, porches, pavilions and galleries. Its Buddha figure draws an endless stream of pilgrims during important festivals, moved by Sanskrit chants repeated by day and night.

Qushan Island

Qushan Island is an important fishing town in Zhoushan. It is one of the earliest inhabited islands in the Zhoushan archipelago, and offers a large number of cultural heritages and beautiful natural scenery. Visitors come for the sunrises and sunsets on Guanyin Mountain, to play on the sand at Shalong beach, try the century-old flavored sea salt and feel the wind from the sea at the green energy base.

To honor it a good many museums have been built -- such as the China Typhoon Museum, China Marine Fishery Museum, China Salt Museum, China Lighthouse Museum, China Coast Defense Museum and the China Islands & Reefs Museum.

Mud Park

On the shoal at the northern end of Xiushan island is a park with a theme of “crazy for mud”.
