The Canada-China Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain Research Institute (CCIOTCHAIN) announced on June 24 that it would establish its first Chinese branch in Wuxi, facilitating development of IoT and blockchain technology in China.

Founded in Toronto, Canada, the CCIOTCHAIN's initial members included Yao Jianquan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Zheng Lirong of China's National Thousand Talents Program, along with well-known Canadian academics.

The Chinese branch of the institute will facilitate the integration of IoT and blockchain applications, and will cooperate with a wide range of organizations from many fields, including those in industry-university research and innovative scientific research. The joint efforts will promote innovative use of IoT and blockchain in smart city and smart agriculture, as well as many other industries.

Li Xiaomin, Party secretary of Wuxi Municipal Party Committee, and Chen Guozhi, director of the International Trade Department of Ontario, Canada, attended the signing ceremony.

"The institute undertakes two important missions, facilitating the demonstration, application and standardization for both IoT and blockchain," Li Xiaomin said. "It will play an important role in technology research, and the integration of IoT and blockchain into various industries. This cooperation agreement is conducive to the development of Wuxi's IoT industry."

Li invited the Canadian delegation, led by Chen Guozhi, to join in the World Internet of Things Expo in September.

"I will be pleased to pass on Li's invitation to the World IoT Expo to fellow Canadian experts and entrepreneurs eager to further discuss the future of the IoT and blockchain industries," Chen said.
