With a total area of 328 square kilometers, Zhuzhou High-tech Industrial Development Zone is located on the west bank of the Xiang River in Zhuzhou, which has the fifth-largest economy in Hunan province. It was established in February 1992 and was approved as a State-level development zone in November 1992.

The development zone is home to the Hexi Demonstration Park, high-tech parks of Tianxin and Dongjiaduan, and Jinshan Industrial Park.

Zhuzhou is one of the most important transportation hubs in central China. Three railway lines meet in Zhuzhou: the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, the Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railway and the Hunan-Guizhou Railway. Perfectly located, Zhuzhou is just a 40-minute drive from Changsha Huanghua International Airport.

Zhuzhou is a key city in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone. As the only State-level High-tech park in Zhuzhou, the Zhuhai high-tech zone plays an important role in the city's economic development.

Its pillar industries include new materials, rail transportation, aviation, auto parts, new energy, electronic information, and modern services.

By the end of 2016, the city had 440 high-tech enterprises which created 210.74 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 16.6 percent.
