State-owned postal service provider, China Post, has launched an air transport service carrying Dalian cherries to mark the beginning of this year’s harvest.

Loaded with 8,500 boxes of Dalian cherries, a Boeing 757-300 cargo aircraft departed for Nanjing, capital of East China’s Jiangsu province, from Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport on June 3.

After the two-and-a-half-hour journey to Nanjing, the cherries were placed on 35 planes to be delivered to 121 cities nationwide. The total transport time was kept under 48 hours to ensure the fruit’s freshness.

The China Post service will operate for 28 days, carrying 30 metric tons of cherries from Dalian to the rest of China until June 30.

The Dalian office of China Post also launched new cold chain land transportation routes, connecting Dalian with 19 cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Shenyang, Changchun and Harbin.
