The total assets of large-scale industrial enterprises based in the city of Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, recently hit a record high of 1 trillion yuan ($155.68 billion), according to a recent news release by a local media organization.

Whether or not an enterprise is considered large-scale usually depends on the annual revenue of its primary business. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, those enterprises whose annual revenues exceed 20 million yuan can be referred to as large-scale.

Fueled by the city’s coal tar processing enterprises, the scale of Ordos’ industrial enterprises has witnessed a dramatic increase in recent years.

By the end of April, the total industrial assets of Ordos’ large-scale enterprises had reached 11.03 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.1 percent.

The city’s coal industry assets reached 503.56 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1 percent, accounting for 48.8 percent of the total.

The city also saw its number of enterprises exceeding 10 billion yuan in total industrial assets increase to 17, two more than last year.
