Wuxi's erhu shines at international exhibition

The musical instrument portion of the China International Exhibition on Pro Audio, Light, Music and Technology was held from May 24 to 27 at China International Exhibition Center, Beijing.

In nine pavilions, exhibition displays focused on traditional folk instruments, guitar and electroacoustic instruments, violins, pianos, wind and reed instruments, percussion instruments and music education tools.

Instrument makers of all kinds came to the exhibition from more than 10 countries and regions to promote their products.

Wuxi's most famous erhu makers including Gu Yue, Guang Guo, Lin Sheng, Jin Bo, Xiong Jian and Hao Yue, promoted the traditional two-stringed Chinese fiddle with masterful demonstrations of the Meicun style, prompting many customers to try the instruments and place orders.

Wuxi's Meicun town is famous as the birthplace of the erhu and today is home to 18 workshops producing approximately 40,000 instruments a year. Meicun-made erhu account for nearly 25 percent of China's entire erhu market, with Gu Yue, Guang Guo and other companies gaining worldwide attention.
