The move was part of the Shenzhen traffic police's efforts to promote public awareness of the importance of wearing helmets when riding e-bikes. According to statistics from the department, 40 percent of people who died in traffic accidents in the city in recent years were e-bike riders not wearing helmets. Since mid-May, Shenzhen traffic police have been redoubling their efforts to promote helmet-wearing and deal with violators. The helmet-wearing rate in delivery industries has recently increased to 32 percent.
