The city of Guangzhou held a special sculpture exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany on May 25, in order to further promote the city's culture and arts in its European sister city.

Held by the Guangzhou culture, radio, television, press and publications bureau and foreign affairs office of the Guangzhou municipal government, the event is part of the 2018 Guangzhou Culture Week and features 33 sculptures created by Guangzhou artists. It will run until June 5.

The year 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of the sister city relationship between Guangzhou and Frankfurt, and Guangzhou hopes use the exhibition to present a thriving, vigorous, and fast-developing image of Guangzhou and China to the people of Frankfurt.

The exhibition consists of three main parts, focusing on the past, present and future of Guangzhou's development.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, a sculpture of five rams representing Guangzhou (Guangzhou is known as the "city of rams" due to an ancient legend) was gifted to Frankfurt. The sculpture was created by Xu Hongfei, head of the Guangzhou Sculpture Academy, and displays the spirit of the Guangzhou people, such as their boldness in risk-taking and fearlessness in innovation.
