Costing 356 million yuan ($55.8 million), the new Nanyang Railway Station is expected to begin operating before the Spring Festival travel rush in 2019, with its main structure having already taken shape.

Covering 20,899 square meters, the new railway station is built in an ancient architectural style. Improving upon the old facility, it is designed to handle more passengers during peak travel periods while also providing them with a comfortable environment.

According to project manager Yan Lie, the new waiting lounges will be capable of accommodating 3,000 people at once. The passenger corridors will be three meters wider than the old ones, and the new platforms will be 90 centimeters higher so as to align with the train doors.

In addition, there will be elevators near the overpasses and underground passages for the convenience of tourists carrying heavy luggage. Passengers can reach the platform directly from the overpasses or exit the station via underground passages.
